Having fun... - July 21, 2008
So what else could I do this year? I'm still collecting swords and knives, but am doing it at a slower rate. One reason is that it is harder to find what I like. So what am I doing? I have begun collecting firearms! I have five now. Well four as I just sold one. I have a .22 LR pistol and a .22 LR rifle. And for bigger fun I have a 9mm compact pistol and a 9mm semi auto rifle which is a beauty as I have been decking it out with many AR aftermarket things. I have been spending many days at the range and at backwoods areas, shooting the guns. Both rifles have nice scopes on them. Other than shooting the guns I love to clean them!
My outdoor activities have prompted my getting a firearm. I have been coming across some of natures wilder creatures lately and feel that I should have protection should they get "hungry" or something. I'll probably never have to use one of them, but it's nice to know that I can if I have too! My days of only carrying a knife are over. I find myself in some real remote areas. Wolves are gaining a foot hold in this part of the world again. Today I am off into a new area that looks interesting! Then it's back into the studio for some...MUSIC...yay!
I'll post my Firearm collection or make a short video of them soon.
Ciao

Just stuff... - May 21, 2008
Nothing big happening right now. I am enjoying the great outdoors. I am spending as much time as possible out in all sorts of woods and mountains. I've geared up myself with suitable clothing and am researching animals etc, in swamps and marshes. I have had many experiences out in the bush that have really intriqued me. Some expected and others quite gruesome. I'm writing a research paper about it all. Complete with videos and pictures.
Of course music and art are close behind.
My last few albums and books have been doing very well...Thanks to all of you. Cheers! :)
Love? - March 26, 2008
I always like to look up into the woods as I drive...
Today I saw a deer standing in the woods. No big deal. But I feel a rush of saddness. Then about a couple hundred yards ahead I see a dead deer lying on the side of the road.
I finish my errands and return on the same road. The beautiful animal is still on the side of the road.
I pass by and feel saddness again.
I glance up into the woods and again see the deer out there...this time sitting in the snow.
Also a relative died today!
Life is truth!

New album... - January 17, 2008
Well it's 2008 and I'm up for a new album. Actually it should be out by the end of this month. It is a blend of Classical, Pop, and Jazzy stuff. I am gradually morphing from all classical piano with orchestration to other genres like Jazz. The album is called "Opinions". On the home front...it's still winter. It's supposed to get pretty cold next week. So long as we don't get tons of snow, I'll be happy.
I am off to finish up the album cover designs and mail them out.
Cheerio!
New Year... - December 31, 2007
So what does this year promise for myself. Well A new album should be released around the middle of January 2008. I'm also working with alocal guitarist to help finish afew other albums that have been in the works for awhile. Hopefully they will start rolling of the press soon. That will feature spanish pop/rock, world, jazz and some just plain guitar jams. As usual I intend on spending many days out in the mountains and woods. The outback always brings new things to learn and discover! But most of all it offers seclusion and peace. Which I totally relish. Last year I purchased a one man personal bug net tent so I could hang out in some real beautiful areas that are heavily guarded by bugs of all sorts. Now I sit in my tent and enjoy the days majesty... Bug free.
So music, boating and hanging out are the plan for next year. I couldn't ask for anything better! yay!
Again thank you to my fans! You all Rock! :)
Ciao

Another press write up... - October 19, 2007
Rick Dakotah, The Author
October 17th, 2007
Since I’ve met Rick I’ve been introduced to a wonderfully gifted self made artist. He forged his own path to stardom and became a world-class musician who dazzles crowds the world over with his music. A man for all seasons, Rick mastered every musical instrument he picked up. He is truly a musical prodigy at the very least. Then I discover Rick is also a wonderfully talented writer and artist as well. His love of the arts and beauty is apparent in his literary endeavor with Artwork, an earlier release, and now Thoughts and Images.
After reviewing Artwork and Thoughts and Images it’s apparent to me Rick Dakotah is more a diamond with many facets all of equal majesty, beauty and excellence. Though he was raised within the sophisticated venues of England, the Native perspective still shines through the facade tea and crumpets. His first love is music but his second passion is art from any genre he chances to endeavor it would appear. His ability to learn any musical instrument as needed is only a reflection of his ability to pickup a pen, paint brush or camera and evolve a masterpiece that has delighted fans worldwide for years.
The arts will take you into the world of interpretation since these drawings are inspired and complemented his music over the years. Art is the window to the soul and art is a very real part of Rick Dakotah’s spirit. There is a part of Rick in everything he creates and it offers a view of his persona.
Thoughts and Images is yet another glimpse into the soul of this remarkable human being. With poems and lyrics of his own design you get yet another view of this mysterious and reclusive artist. He is a driven man, driven to achieve and accomplish goals that were once left for others. He refused to be typecast even within the world of art and truly has spread his wings.
But there is more to this story since it’s not just all about books or music. It’s also an inspiration to other Natives who have been pigeon-holed and typecast in all genres of the entertainment and art world. After all he was Ojibwa when he was adopted out of this country and raised in Jolly Old England. Though he was multi-talented he was rejected because he was not Indian enough. Guess full blood Ojibwa is not Indian enough eh. With doors closing all around him he decided to make a go of it alone and would not except failure. The only formal education he received in the music world was from the University of Hard Knocks as others tried to fit him into their mold. Rick made his own door and he is the only one with the key.
Rick bares the same scars as the rest of us since he faced the same prejudices in the entertainment world. He had his struggles with the BIA as well. Again, Rick utilized this opportunity to forge a trail that few ever walk. It’s called the road to success and to coin a phrase from ole Blue Eyes, “and he did it his way”.
Gads, if he decided to become a hard bitten journalist and commentator I’m toast eh. I can see it now as I pull up to the parking lot of NativeVue. There will sit my pocket protector, my duct tape encrusted computer and my Tim Horton’s coffee mug with a note, “Sorry old chap, pip pip and all that rot, ……………..Rick”. There will be Carole and Rick in the penthouse flinging my CD’s and DVD’s out the window like they were Frisbees. They will be wolfing down my stash of Snickers bars as they laugh shamelessly. And there will be my sister Ann shooting skeet as my life’s work literally goes out the window. Good shot Ann, holay!

Stuff... - October 12, 2007
I am in the middle of getting my next album together. The artwork and album design are in the finishing stages. Then there is the registering of it and promotion. It should be out and available by the end of this month (october2007) Fall foliage is at it's peak this week, so I should be out on the pond and out in the woods taking in the fresh air and beautiful colours around me. Of course my Hi def camera will be recording the events. The name of the new album is: "Lessons".
Summers end... - September 8, 2007
It's over! I want more summer! Sob Sob. This year was great for having fun. I spent many a beautiful day exploring and hanging out in the woods and mountains. Kayaking was fantastic. Flower gardening tooka second place this year, so I guess next year I will be doing that more often to get the gardens back to their splender. Possibly by October I may have my next Album done. I 've got four or five more songs to work on. The album will be another Classically inclined one with a few jazzy numbers in the mix. hopefully this fall will give me plenty of days to get out more and explore. I just love hanging in the woods. It is so peaceful and inspiring.
Time to get the house ready for winter. I'll be in the studios quite a bit so It will need to be arranged for serious days of work in it. Thought I 'd take up cross country skiing this winter and a bit of snow shoeing also. That way I can get out into the woods.
Well it 's a good day today so i'm off to explore! :)
New Book released... - July 24, 2007
Summer... - July 17, 2007
Summer is going well. I have been working a a new album, but not as hard as I should or could be. I am having to much fun just hanging out. Lately it has been exploring the deep woods. I have been discovering many exciting things, and just having fun basically. My next adventure is a canyon in the mountains. It's a real in hospitable place. It should yield some interesting things. Okay, I'll get back to work soon. :) My next album release should be in August sometime. Probably towards the end of it.

Like a Comet.... - May 8, 2007
My friend passed away on May 7th, 2007. My new album was written for him during his illness. It is dedicated to him and all that knew him. I think I'll spend the day in the woods or on a mountain top. I'll listen for his voice in the wind. I'll look for his image in the clouds. I'll feel his warmth in the sunlight. (cry)
...sorry..(cry)
Bye Franklin.....
